Meet the Romans

Thank you for a fantastic year, you have all been amazing. I wish you every success in Year 4.

Mrs Iliff, Mrs Smith and Mrs Hearity.

This term we are focusing on a Geography topic, learning about the Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes. We are learning how mountains are formed and where they are located in the British Isles and on each continent. We will be learning about the formation of volcanoes and the impact and location of earthquakes zones across the planet.

Our RE topics are Energy, Choices and Special Places.

We are continuing to learn and practise the 3x, 4x and 8x tables, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using bigger numbers in our Maths lessons. We will begin work on measurement including angles and 2D/3D shape.

In English we have been writing recounts about our experiences of Gangsta Granny and Explorer Day. We are writing a discussion text, expressing views about 'Breaktimes should be longer.' We are also continuing to learn new spellings and practise our cursive handwriting with handwriting pens.

In Science we are learning about Plants, Light and Shadows.

This term the children are working with Everton coaches and are learning to play team games such as Swedish dodge ball and rounder's. Commando Joe will also be teaching the children cricket, rounder's and tennis.

During our Art and Design Technology lessons we will be developing our sketching and drawing skills, developing printing techniques and looking at the paintings of Japanese artist Hakusai.

Home Learning Project - Volcanoes

The children had a very busy day today! They made Celtic brooches, prepared a Roman Feast, trained to be Roman soldiers and made a Roman board game. In the afternoon they enjoyed eating the food that they had prepared.
The children were brilliant on Thursday at the Poetry performance and recital. They recited chorally a poem about Boudicca-Warrior Queen of the Iceni and a rap about skeletons. Both poems were related to our current topics. They enjoyed performing as well as listening to other schools perform their poems.
The children had a lovely time this afternoon celebrating World Book Day with a visit from Year 6 Cairo who came along to read with the children. They also had a drink and a cookie from the PTA. They looked fabulous in their costumes and brought a variety of books to class.
Look at our fabulous Stone Age to Iron Age homes made with lots of different materials. Well done to all who worked hard over the half term. Five smiley faces each!!!!!
Class Rome had a wonderful time exploring Loggerheads Country Park. They walked along the River Alyn to Devil's Gorge, had lunch in the Tea Gardens, climbed very steep steps up to the Limestone Cliffs and had a brilliant view of Moel Fammau.
