Platinum - Your School Games

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games PLATINUM award for the 2121/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government – led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and in the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders, and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill the criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce, and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

We look forward to applying once again in 2023.

St Aloysius PE and School Sport Video

Over the past 6 years, there has been a transformation in attitude towards the importance of sport at St Aloysius and sport has become a real strength of our school. Through careful use of our Sports Premium funding, we have been able to improve and strengthen the quality of teaching and learning in PE in a variety of ways. By creating these links with Everton in the Community, Premier League Primary Stars and the BBC, the children have been part of some amazing opportunities. We have welcomed three footballers into school who took part in PE lessons with the children, we have also been on BBC Northwest tonight and we have hosted events and taken part in filming to promote physical activity with young people. Being part of this has created lots of excitement and high levels of engagement and the children are excited and proud to share all that we do at St Aloysius.

We became a trailblazer school for the new BBC and Premier League initiative – Super Movers. A member of the Super Movers team from the BBC, who we can been working closely with said, “St Aloysius have been the perfect trailblazer school for our Super Movers campaign. When we were first introduced by Everton in the Community and I was knocked out by the positive ‘can do’ attitude from Miss Wrigley and Miss Evans (Year 6 teacher and PE lead). We have asked a lot of the schools who have tested Super Movers, from completing surveys to hosting filming and arranging consent, yet despite the weight of daily school workloads and SATs, they always saw it as a great way to help get children more active in a fun way rather than a burden.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them.”

Runner up - Outstanding Contribution to Sport in a Primary School 2018

We were thrilled to be shortlisted for our very first Educate Award in 2018 in the category for ‘Outstanding Contribution towards Sport in a Primary School’. St Aloysius finished overall runner up; we were and still are beyond proud of our children’s commitment to sport, which led to this huge success. Thank you to all our children and families for your continued support in attending after-school clubs and supporting us at competitions.

Gold School Games Mark - it continues to reward schools and other educational establishments for their commitment to Competitive Sport.

We also earned, for the 5th year in a row, the School Games Mark Gold Award for: increasing Engagement in School Games. Where we provide all students with two hours of timetabled Physical Education per week (within the curriculum only) and have extra curriculum provision inclusive of physical activity in addition to this. We try to engage at least 50% of pupils in each year group when clubs are available in extracurricular sporting and physical activity every week.

We are excited to now be able to apply for Platinum this year (2022) … Wish us luck!

Update – We did it! Platinum Your School Games for demonstrating how we have embedded positive experiences of competition into our school and understanding of young people’s motivations in Physical Education.
