St Aloysius Catholic Primary School Together with Jesus, we Love, Learn and Believe

Welcome to Madrid! We are Year 4.

Our teacher is Mrs Phillips and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Kinsella.

Summer Term

Our final term in Year 4 is jam packed with wonderful lessons and a chance to make lots of new memories.

Our topic for the first half term is 'Magnificent Mountains'. We will be learning about how mountains are formed over many years and comparing Mount Everest with Mount Snowden in Wales. In science we are learning about plants and how they grow.

In the second half term we will move our learning on to discover the power of the 'Active Earth' and find out what causes volcanoes and earthquakes and why they happen in some places and not others.

PE will be on Monday and Tuesday.

I should read at home every day and bring my book in daily.

By the end of the year I need to know my times tables and spellings so I should be practicing those at home as well.

            Spring Term

Welcome to 2017! Madrid are very excited to enter the New Year with many resolutions and opportunities for new experiences.

This term we are finding out about 'What the Romans did for us'. We we be discovering how, when and why they invaded Britain. Mrs Phillips said she is really looking forward to teaching us about Boudicca and the Celts. We will write letters of application to join the Roman Army (after we find out exactly what is required!) and will end our topic with an amazing Celts and Romans day where we will celebrate our learning and discover a taste of Ancient Rome.

Our Class reader this term is Bill's new Frock by Anne Fine.

Mrs Phillips is reading Blob by David Walliams to us every day.

We are swimming from 31st January - 9th February at Huyton Leisure and Culture Park.

In Science we are learning about forces and magnets in our 'Feel the Force' topic  as well as 'How Humans Work.'

Year 4 will begin their Always with You programme with their parents as they prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in May.

During Lent we will be raising funds for Cafod. We talked about the importance of fresh drinking water and how we take that for granted. After finding out that for £28, we could buy a water filter for a family to guarantee them fresh drinking water, we decided that we are aiming to raise that  amount by Easter. After lots of discussion, we decided to use our plastic water bottles as inspiration!

We are going to have a competition to recycle a bottle and turn it into something else. We did some research and saw amazing flowers, piggy banks, pencil cases and Minions! We will try and fill our water bottles with coins (coppers) and hope that when we add them up it will raise £28! We will share the results with you at Easter.

REMEMBER: GANGSTA GRANNY at Liverpool Empire is Thursday 20th April 2017.

Autumn Term

This term we are really looking forward to many exciting learning opportunities!

Our first Come and See topic is People. We will be exploring our own family trees and discovering more about Jesus' own family tree.

Our topic is all about Stone Age to Iron Age and we will be investigating all about the past in Britain and learning how life changed. We will become mini archaeologists and discover how artefacts help us to learn about the past.

Every Thursday we have steel drum lessons and cannot wait to do a performance at the end!

We have PE on Mondays and Wednesday.

Books are changed every Monday.
