Diwali Celebrations

Wow! What a busy and exciting week we’ve had celebrating Diwali, the festival of light. We started the week with a visit from a lady called Purvi. She told the children the story of Rama and Sita and the children joined in with lots of actions. Then, the children were all invited to wear traditional Indian clothes and they really enjoyed trying on the different colourful outfits. We listened to traditional Indian music and we really enjoyed learning lots of new dance moves. The children were so engaged and excited to dance!

Throughout the rest of the week, the children have made their own diva lamps out of clay and then painted them and added glitter. They have decorated mehndi patterns on paper hands and coloured a variety of rangoli patterns.

The children have enjoyed acting out the Diwali story using puppets and making masks. Yesterday, we even tasted some traditional Indian foods, including poppadoms, naan bread, bhajis and samosas. We have also been reading a variety of non-fiction books to find out more information. We have learnt so much about this festival! Well done children!
