St Aloysius Catholic Primary School Together with Jesus, we Love, Learn and Believe

Computing

This week, the children at St Aloysius have been learning how to code as part of the new Computing curriculum that will begin in Sept 2014. Ian from Knowsley CLCs came to school and did some taster sessions with all of the children from Years 1-6.

In our session, Ian looked at commands that we give to computers and devices including forward, backwards, turn left and turn right and he played games with the children to make sure they understood. The children were really good at this because we use beebots all the time in class!

Then the children explored two apps - Kodable and the iPad Beebot app. The children had to give different instructions as they progressed through the levels, and the controls in each app were slightly different. The children loved exploring these apps and tried really hard to find the correct sequence of commands to give. There was some excellent problem solving happening and they all loved our session with the CLC. Miss Harrison has already installed these apps on our school iPads so the children can continue with this learning!
