World War Two Cookery

We've started to research rationing this week; why it was introduced, which foods were rationed, what the weekly allowances were and how people were encouraged to grow their own fruit and veg.

Following on from the success of our great Christmas Cake bake off, Mrs Rotherham, and several members of the PA, came along today and worked with the children as they tried out some wartime recipes. The budding master chefs of Ottawa got to grips with peeling and chopping veg, greasing dishes, weighing out ,whisking and mixing ingredients, as they prepared Yorkshire puddings, Blind Scouse and Bread and Butter pudding.

There were mixed reactions when it came to the tasting session, but most agreed that everything was delicious - Ethan really liked everything and had three helpings! The children were all given a copy of the recipes to take home so that they can try them out again.
