St Aloysius Catholic Primary School Together with Jesus, we Love, Learn and Believe

Rome

       Welcome to Rome

We are a mixed year 3 and 4 class.

                                     Our teacher is Mrs Phillips.

Our teaching assistant is Mrs. Hearity (Wednesday - Friday)

Reminders

PE: Tuesday and Friday (we need our full PE kits in on these days)

Reading Books - we should read every night and bring our books in each day to be checked. Our books get changed on a Wednesday. If we read every night, we will become great readers and we can earn 10 smilies a week! Year 4 can also log into Reading Plus at home. This will really help to develop our comprehension skills.

Times tables - we must know all of our times tables by the end of Year 4 and can use TimesTables Rockstars to help us. We can earn certificates as we make progress!

Spellings - we bring a spelling list home each week to practice and learn.

Summer 2019

This term we are very excited to focus on Geography as we learn about mountains, earthquakes and volcanoes. We will use maps, books, iPads and many more resources to become experts.

We will continue with our weekly violin lessons and cannot wait to invite our families back to see us perform at the end of the year. We are sure you will be impressed with the progress we have been making.

In PE we are learning to play cricket and will be swimming at the start of July.

Light and shadows is the first topic we will be investigating in Science, followed by learning more about what plants need to grow, reproduce and be healthy.

In DT, we will make and evaluate energy bars for mountaineers, finding out which ingredients give climbers energy and can be carried around easily.

 SPRING 2 LEARNING

Our topic for this term is The Roman Empire and it's effects on Britain.

We have lots of exciting, creative and interactive activities planned including a visit to Chester! We will design and create mosaics and learn all about Boudicca.

(Please see our Knowledge Organiser for more information).

In the second half of the term we will be reading a playscript called 'Tune of Lies' and writing our own playscripts using all the features we have identified. Our grammar work will focus on adverbs and the use of adverbial phrases. Spelling rules will continue to cover suffixes and some prefixes for Year 3. The children will also have challenge words from Year 3/4 list and topic words to learn to spell.

In maths in the second half of the term we will return to place value, particularly developing our understanding of Roman numerals. Each year group will work on geometry, time and statistics as appropriate.

Our Science topic for Spring 2 is skeletons and in particular how humans move and we will be designing and making our own levers.

In RE we will continue to explore Listening and Sharing and introduce two exciting new topics, Self-discipline and Energy. Miss Telfor-Clarke will support our personal and social development and help our emotional well being with work based on 'It's good to be me'.

It's hola to Senorita Maria who is going to introduce animals and our home environment in Spanish and EFC in the community will continue to support our physical development with exciting activities.

Finally, our violin lessons with Mrs Ali will continue and we hope to have another successful recital for you to attend at the end of the Spring term.
