We recently visited Croxteth Park to track the journey of the River Alt through Liverpool. With the help of Paul the ranger, we followed the course of the river and saw how it meanders, sometimes floods and we measured the flow by playing Pooh sticks. It was really helpful to see the features of a river first hand.
We looked at how bridges are designed to help people cross rivers and we used a range of materials to make our own bridges in groups. We had to make sure they were strong enough to hold the weight of a box of books and high enough to also let them pass underneath. All groups had the same materials but were able to trade those we did not want with each other.
