Wow! What a brilliant time we had at our first ’Books for Breakfast’ session today. We came to school and found that Miss Harrison and Miss Steele had been busy setting up the classroom with lots of our favourite books and they had put lots of reading activities out for us to do.
We were excited to bring our Mums, Dads and Nans into school and show them all the lovely things that we do in school. First, Miss Harrison started the session by reading her favourite story ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. She even read the story using her Gruffalo voice in front of the grown ups!
Then we were off to explore the different activities with our grown ups. There were different areas and cosy spaces to explore and Miss Harrison had chosen different stories, including ones that we know really well.
The Gruffalo & The Gruffalo’s Child
Room on the Broom
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The Three Little Pigs
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
and many more.
We could read the stories with our grown ups, there were masks and puppets to act the stories out, sequencing activities, words to read, cvc activities and sound games to play.
We also enjoyed breakfast of cereal, toast, croissants, juice, milk and fruit. We had worked up an appetite after all of that busy reading. Finally, all of the children received a certificate and a book as a thank you for coming to ‘Books for Breakfast. It was a great start to the day!
